The UNICEF office in Kosovo has enabled the development of the “Know Your Rights” platform, at the same time it has continued to support the IAP in the promotion of this platform. This is an online platform with which the Ombudsman’s Institution aims to promote the rights of young people aged 16-29, according to the Kosovo legislation that is in force.

The platform provides guidance on several rights in the fields of education, health, minority communities, employment, family, justice system, community work, social benefits and youth empowerment. The description of the rights is accompanied by a note of the institutions responsible for the implementation of the rights, and those in which young people can handle complaints in case of violation of their rights. In the framework of the promotion and further development of the “Know Your Rights” platform, on April 18, 2017, the Ombudsman Institution in cooperation with UNICEF organized gatherings, where representatives of public institutions, NGOs and young people involved in human rights promotion activities.

It is worth noting that in the framework of this cooperation, UNICEF has also implemented the promotional campaign through the TV show that was aimed at promoting the “Know Your Rights” platform. This campaign started on October 18, 2017 and was broadcast on television during the last three months of 2017.

UNMIK’s support in the promotion of the Ombudsman Institution was done through the financing of a media campaign through televised debates (on the televisions operating in North Mitrovica), the publication and distribution of brochures with the aim of informing the citizens of North Mitrovica. on human rights and on the role and mandate of the IAP. This support has had a positive impact on informing citizens, in which case an increase in the number of complaints from citizens of this side to the IAP during 2017 and 2018 has been observed.
