Prishtina, 22 July 2026 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, met with the Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Mr. Arian Gashi.

The meeting discussed the importance of respecting human rights in criminal proceedings, emphasizing that the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms constitutes one of the main pillars of the rule of law and the fair functioning of the justice system.

In this regard, the need for continuous implementation of constitutional and international standards in all phases of criminal proceedings was underlined.

The parties emphasized the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in addressing the challenges related to ensuring an efficient and fair justice system, and that regular dialogue between institutions contributes to identifying issues of common interest and advancing practices that strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights.
