The Ombudsperson met with the Chairperson of the Kosovo Judicial Council

Prishtina, 21 July 2026 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, met with the Chairperson of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), Mr. Rrustem Thaqi, with whom he discussed the importance of strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in the function of protecting and promoting fundamental human rights and freedoms.

During the meeting, issues related to the functioning of the judicial system, citizens’ access to justice, the efficiency of judicial procedures, as well as the importance of respecting human rights standards in the administration of justice were addressed.

The Ombudsperson emphasized that an independent, efficient and impartial judicial system is a fundamental pillar of the rule of law and a guarantor of the effective protection of citizens’ rights. He underlined the readiness of the Ombudsperson’s Institution to continue cooperation with the Kosovo Judicial Council in addressing challenges affecting human rights and in advancing the standards of the rule of law.

For his part, the Chairman of the KJC, Mr. Rrustem Thaqi, expressed his commitment to deepening cooperation with the Ombudsperson’s Institution, appreciating the importance of institutional dialogue and exchange of experiences for strengthening the justice system.

The interlocutors agreed to continue mutual communication and cooperation on issues of common interest, with the aim of improving the protection of human rights and increasing citizens’ trust in justice institutions.
