Pristina, 7 April 2026 – The Omobudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, received his counterpart from Tirana, Mr. Endrit Shabani, with associates, in a meeting on his first visit to Kosovo since taking office.

Mr. Naim Qelaj assessed this visit as an important step for the continuation and further strengthening of cooperation between the two institutions and for the joint advancement of human rights standards.

During the meeting, the two counterparts discussed the human rights situation in both countries, the challenges faced by the institutions, as well as the opportunities for deepening inter-institutional cooperation.

In particular, the importance of exchanging experiences and best practices in handling citizens’ complaints, protecting and promoting fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as strengthening the role of independent institutions was emphasized.

For his part, Mr. Shabani stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the two institutions, emphasizing that the exchange of experiences and coordination on issues of common interest contributes to strengthening the role of the Ombudsman institutions in protecting citizens’ rights.

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Albania, accompanied by Mr. Qelaj, also met with the Speaker of the Parliament and Acting President, Ms. Albulena Haxhiu, and with the President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Nexhmi Rexhepi.
