Ombudsperson participating at Council of Europe ON Forum

Pristina, March 13th, 2026 – The Ombudsperson, Naim Qelaj, and his deputy, Anita Çavdarbasha Korenica, are participating in the second edition of the Council of Europe High-Level Conference of Ombudsperson Institutions and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), known as the “Council of Europe ON Forum”, in Strasbourg, France.
This year’s Forum is being organised under the auspices of the Moldovan Presidency of the Committee of Ministers and is co-organised by the European Court of Human Rights and the Directorate General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law.
The conference will focus on the essential role of Ombudsperson institutions and NHRIs in safeguarding democracy, including addressing foreign interference, the weakening of checks and balances, and the link between democracy and fundamental rights, with an emphasis on freedom of expression, opinion and assembly.
