Ombudsperson met with members of the Bosniak community in Reqan

Pristina, November 24th, 2025 – The meeting with members of the Bosniak community was held in Reqan where the Ombudsperson discussed his role and mandate, including representatives of civil society and human rights activists.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, emphasized that he has a special role in protecting the rights of communities and the meeting in question provides a good opportunity to discuss the challenges and problems faced by this community.
The participants emphasized that they encounter various challenges, including the use of the Bosniak language in those municipalities where this language is official. They also emphasized that these municipalities do not have sufficient and updated publications in the Bosniak language on official websites.
They added that the lack of textbooks in this language poses a challenge for students of this community. On the other hand, graduates continue to face the issue of non-nostrification of their diplomas after completing higher education. Delays in court proceedings were among other challenges.
The Ombudsperson emphasized that the Institution he leads has dealt with some of the problems presented at the meeting, through citizens’ complaints but also through official duty.
The Mayor of Prizren Municipality, Mr. Shaqir Totaj, also participated in this meeting.
