OSCE’s workshops as support of OI and PIK
Pristina, 4th of October, 2025 – Supporting Ombudsperson Institution and Police Inspectorate introduce new police officers to their roles in safeguarding human rights and accountability.
Over the past three months, @OSCEKosovo, together with the Preventive Mechanism against Torture of the Ombudsperson Institution (PMaT) and the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo (PIK), organized eight workshops for new Kosovo Police officers.
These sessions focused on the mandates of both the PMaT and PIK, highlighting their crucial roles in monitoring, oversight, and accountability, and emphasized the importance of Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which safeguards the right to liberty and security.
Key recommendations from the workshops:
• Ongoing human rights training for police officers
• Stronger co-operation between the oversight institutions and the police
• Promoting a culture of prevention and accountability
The OSCE Mission remains committed to working with Kosovo’s institutions in strengthening human rights protection, ensuring responsible policing, and building public trust.
