
Ombudsperson took part in the world conference of the International Ombudsman Institute
Pristina, May 16, 2024 – Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, accompanied by his deputy, Mr. Niman Hajdari, are participating in the 13th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), focusing on the theme “Act together for our tomorrow”, which is being held in The Hague, Netherlands.
The IOI World Conference aims to explore the role of Ombudsmen in shaping a better future for all citizens. While the world is facing many challenges, such as climate change, the development of social values, inclusiveness and the protection of the rights of future generations, the agenda of the conference is focused on the following issues:
- Climate change and livelihoods: addressing the urgent need to mitigate environmental threats and improve quality of life.
- Dilemmas of values: addressing ethical complexities to uphold the principles of justice, integrity and accountability.
- Inclusion and outreach to vulnerable and marginalized groups: Promoting social equality and ensuring access to justice for all segments of society.
- Future generations: Embracing a forward-looking approach to policy-making and governance that protects the interests of future generations.
During the discussions, the collective responsibility of Ombudsmen around the world in addressing contemporary challenges and promoting sustainable progress was underlined.
It was also emphasized that in an era where good governance and human rights are constantly being challenged, it is the duty of Ombudsmen to adapt, innovate and collaborate to fulfill their vital mission.
Therefore, in this sense, recognizing the impact of current actions on future results, participants are engaging in the exchange of their expertise and experiences to facilitate and deepen mutual cooperation.
The Ombudsperson Qelaj will be committed to using the findings and recommendations addressed by this conference to engage in the advancement of fundamental rights and freedoms in our country, underlining the key role of collaborative action for a brighter tomorrow.
Since 2012, the Ombudsperson’s Institution has been an institutional member with the right to vote in the International Ombudsmen Institute.
