Ombudsperson’s reaction on the murder of the two women
Pristina, April 16th, 2024 – The Ombudsperson, extremely concerned with the murder of the woman that happened today in Peja, and that of the other woman that happened a few days ago in Ferizaj, condemns these macabre acts. On this occasion, he calls on the competent authorities to increase measures for the safety of women’s lives in order not to tolerate any concessions to anyone who may be responsible in these cases.
Also, he considers that these brutal acts are the last warning that the ongoing phenomenon of gender-based violence and domestic violence requires immediate interventions with all state and institutional capacities.
The Ombudsperson also expresses his concern about the language used in some comments that contain inappropriate language that may incite hatred. He asks every citizen to distance themselves from violence against women and girls by publicly condemning these acts. In this case, he asks the security and prosecution bodies to monitor and take measures to avoid any comments that contain language that spreads or incites hatred.
The Ombudsperson feels regret and expresses condolences to the families of the murdered women.
