Pristina, March 18, 2024 – The Ombudsperson, Naim Qelaj, hosted the chairman of the board of the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO), Ymer Fejzullahu, where the topic of discussion was the implementation of the judgment of the Prishtina Basic Court A.nr.1373/2017.

This judgment obliges the ERO to undertake actions in terms of compensation for the damage done to the citizens of the country with the billing of electricity spent in the four municipalities of the north of the country, in the time period from February 6, 2012 to December 20, 2012, in the amount of over 40 million euros.

Mr. Fejzullahu emphasized that the ERO is committed to fulfill the obligation of the verdict of the Basic Court in Pristina and that regarding the necessity of implementing the judgment and the ways of its implementation, the ERO has notified the Parliamentary Committee for Economy, Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade as well as the Ministry of Economy for the compensation of citizens, discussing the ways in which the compensation should be done.

The Ombudsperson, on the other hand, emphasized that the non-implementation of the verdict could have multiple consequences and even more serious implications for the state budget, therefore he suggested that the Government of Kosovo should also be involved in this matter.
