Ombudsperson Qelaj hosted the newly appointed judges

Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj hosted the newly appointed judges in an informative meeting and discussed his role and mandate. Mr. Qelaj discussed various topics with the participants, in particular the challenges of the justice system and the challenges of citizens in realizing their rights. He congratulated the new judges on their new duties, wishing them success in their work.
Mr. Basri Kastrati, deputy Ombudsperson, spoke about the mandate and work of the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture and the treatment of other cruel, inhuman and degrading punishments. He said that the mechanism draws up and publishes reports with recommendations, resulting from the handling of complaints and requests and regular and unannounced visits to all places where persons deprived of their liberty are kept.
Mr. Burim Tahiri, Acting Director of the Department for Legal Affairs and Research at the OI, explained the internal procedures for reviewing complaints on citizens’ claims for human rights violations, up to the preparation of recommendations for such cases. He also spoke about the relationship between the IAP and the judiciary.
The Academy of Justice organizes a one-year training for newly appointed judges, where in addition to practical training in the courts, the judges who are following the initial training make visits to various institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
