Ombudsperson visited the village of Janjevë/Janjevo
Pristina, 2nd of October 2023 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, jointly with his associates, pursuant to his mandate and liabilities, visited the village of Janjevë/Janjevo, Municipality of Lipjan, in order to see in person, severe living conditions on the ground, disclosed in the individual complaint of some residents of this village.
Actually, situation with the water supply and sewerage is distressing, which has been reported by some residents of the area, emphasizing the fact that as of 2017, upon construction of the water supply basin, which is located above the local cemetery, water, from unknown sources, pours into the bases of some residential houses, floods the rooms in which they live, the moisture spreads to the walls of the houses, where there are traces of mold, it wets the power wires in the house that directly endangers their safety from electrical short circuits and burning of their houses, but it also affects their health and quality of life… Residents suspect that the water flooding their homes comes from old water and sewerage pipes.
Old abandoned houses are also a significant problem, some of which have already been ruined, while others are in danger of falling totally down, which also poses a risk to neighboring inhabited houses as well as to free movement of people. Village roads are damaged and old without any single refurbishment, resulting with difficulties in accessing houses and vehicles movement.
According to complainants’ assertions and the documents presented, it derives that municipal authorities as well as regional Water Company so far, have been several times notified for the aforementioned problems.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, in accordance with his mandate for protection and monitoring of human rights, expresses his deep concern for the harsh living conditions in which the residents of the village Janjevë/Janjevo dwell and calls on the competent bodies to urgently react in accordance with the powers that they have.
