Prishtina – 23 June 2023, the Ombudsperson Mr. Naim Qelaj hosted the residents of the village Gremnik of the Municipality of Klina, who voiced their concerns regarding (as they claimed) the arbitrary actions of the central and local authorities, regarding the permission of the economic operator for the construction of the cement factory in Klina. Residents pointed out that recently the economic authority has also been granted the permit for stone crushing plant in the same location.

The representatives of the residents emphasized that the residents of the villages surrounding the location planned for the construction of the cement factory and the stone crusher do not agree with these actions, due to the danger and environmental pollution, the destruction of water sources and the cultural monuments that are located in this area.

According to them, the opposition of the residents is constantly being ignored while they estimate that the actions of the relevant authorities are contrary to the law. The residents declared that the situation could escalate into a conflict due to the opposition of the residents given that their voice is not heard by anyone.

The Ombudsperson emphasized that he will examine the claims and concerns raised by the residents, that he is investigating the case in question and that he will take care to supervise the actions of the competent authorities, so that they are in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, regarding any action or impact on the environment.
