Statement of the Ombudsperson on the occasion of International Children’s Day
Pristina, June 1, 2023 – The Ombudsperson draws the attention of the authorities to the constitutional and legal responsibilities and obligations to undertake all the necessary measures to ensure full respect of children’s rights.
Despite the achievements, more efforts should be made to create a place where children will grow, develop and be educated in a safe environment, also offering all the opportunities for a future with perspective and increased social well-being.
The situation continues to remain worrying for the partial implementation of the child protection law, with special emphasis on the rights of children with disabilities. Children start their lives dependent on adults, respecting and realizing their rights is essential for them to develop their full potential.
On this special day for children, among other things, it is important that all authorities should reflect on the importance of all inclusion in education and increasing its quality, and also increase vigilance for the elimination of negative phenomena in schools, such as violence between children.
The Ombudsperson promises that he will continue to be committed to, through the exercise of his mandate, be strong in the defense of children’s rights, finding him as their friend, ready to cooperate and listen to their voice.
