17/05/2023

Pristina, May 17, 2023 – On the occasion of marking the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the Ombudsperson emphasizes the importance of this day to express commitment and solidarity with the LGBTQI+ community, reaffirming its commitment to protect, advance and advocate in favor of their rights.

The Ombudsperson notes that despite the progress that has been made in the country, members of the LGBTQI+ community continue to be discriminated against as a result of prejudice and stigmatization, and violence against them.

Under this year’s motto “Together always: United in Diversity”, the Ombudsperson recalls that all citizens of this country are equal and that the state has the duty to protect their rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Kosovo and the Law on Protection from Discrimination.

On this day’s note, the Ombudsperson draws the attention of the government and other public authorities, for the obligation they have to protect vulnerable groups from discrimination and to take legal measures to recognize all the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
