The Ombudsperson met the members of the Danish parliamentary committee on legislation
Pristina, April 14th, 2023 – Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj hosted a delegation of parliamentarians from Denmark, respectively members of the parliamentary committee for legislation.
Mr. Qelaj informed them about his mandate and competencies, as well as about the work and activities of the Ombudsperson’s Institution in the protection and promotion of human rights.
The Ombudsperson also spoke about the work of the National Torture Prevention Mechanism, which monitors the work of all places where persons deprived of liberty are kept, including police stations, detention centers, prisons, places where foreigners are kept deprived of liberty, as well as psychiatric and social care institutions.
Mr. Qelaj said that he had contacts and discussion with his counterpart in Denmark that were related to the agreement between Kosovo and Denmark for the transfer of prisoners from Denmark to Kosovo.
He said that for Kosovo this is a new practice and that he will continue to pay attention to this process, adding that international cooperation is one of the issues of interest to the Ombudsperson’s Institution.
Danish MPs were interested in the implementation of the Ombudsperson’s recommendations by public institutions as well as the general condition of prisons in Kosovo.
