The Ombudsperson is participating in the Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions in Geneva

The Ombudsperson of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Naim Qelaj is participating in the Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), which gathers Human Rights Institutions from all over the globe.

This year, this meeting marks the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles and establishment of the world network of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI), as well as the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Addressing of human rights was crucial demand of the meeting which requires speedy intervention in the focus of NHRI actions, which are established and exercise their role in compliance with the standards established by the Paris Principles.

This Annual Meeting is an opportunity of reflecting of the current state of human rights and the importance of the Universal Declaration. In the current context, it provides a global platform to disclose the experiences and contribution of NHRIs in protection of human rights and activities, priorities and needs for the implementation of the mandate in compliance with the Paris Principles.

Participation of Kosovo Republic Ombudsperson in this meeting, among others, has been a good opportunity to meet with counterparts from around the world and to discuss jointly relevant issues.

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions – (GANHRI) is an international organization of institutions dealing with human rights, which operates under the umbrella of the United Nations. It promotes and empowers these institutions in order to comply with the Paris Principles, guides promotion and protection of human rights and serves as a collective, important and constructive voice in addressing the impact of today’s complex and multiple crises, with which the world is facing with regard to human rights.
