OI, KOMF and LQPSK asked the government to approve the two draft laws for better social services for children and families
Pristina, August 9, 2022 – The Ombudsperson’s Institution, the Coalition of Child Protection Organizations (KOMF) and the League of Social Work Centers of Kosovo (LQPSK) have presented a joint position regarding two draft laws that seek to help children and families and have asked the government of Kosovo to approve them this year, according to the legislative agenda.
OI, KOMF and LQPSK have sent a letter to the government of Kosovo regarding the draft law on Local Government Finances and the draft law on Social and Family Services, which are expected to be approved in September and October 2022.
The draft law on Local Government Finance provides for the creation of a Specific Grant for Social Services, which will provide a minimum of funding for social services. Meanwhile, the Draft Law on Social and Family Services provides support for children and families in need, victims of domestic violence, trafficking and exploitation, children with disabilities, and others.
“Given the delay in the process of approving these draft laws for several years, as well as the needs of citizens for additional services after the situation worsened by the Covid-19, we consider that the Government should undertake all the necessary actions for the approval of these draft laws and it is done within the deadlines set by the legislative agenda,” the joint letter states.
