
The Ombudsperson participated in a roundtable on “Prevention of Corruption”
Pristina, May 19, 2022 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj participated in a roundtable organized in North Mitrovica by the non-governmental organization ACDC on “Prevention of Corruption”.
Mr. Qelaj said that its needed more to be done in the fight against corruption, a phenomenon that can directly or indirectly affect human rights.
He said that dysfunction of the judicial system, traditional bureaucracy, low income and insufficient institutional control are some of the factors that promote corruption.
“I am convinced that more needs to be done in the fight against corruption, to promote corruption reporting, and to take protective measures that guarantee justice for corruption reporters,” he said.
The Ombudsman added that the consequences are undoubtedly very harmful to society, affecting the loss of trust in the justice system, the loss of public confidence in the state, endangering political and economic stability, and the spread of a corrupt mentality.
Judge Milos Markovic from the Basic Court of Mitrovica and representatives from civil society also participated in this panel.
