Pristina, April 28, 2022 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj met on Wednesday with human rights activists, civil society organizations and representatives of local authorities in the municipality of Kamenica.
In this roundtable was discussed about the many challenges that this municipality faces, among others, mentioning the issue of education, lack of staff in the center for social work, lack of employment of people with disabilities and lack of a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj said that these roundtables, as part of the “Equality for All” campaign, help the institution he leads to better understand the problems and to identify them that the Ombudsperson’s Institution can address.
“Our views are presented through reports with recommendations and it is the responsibility of the authorities to take these recommendations into account when we find human rights violations,” said Mr. Qelaj.
He added that the country’s institutions should take measures to implement the laws, especially those laws that deal with marginalized categories, such as the Law on Protection from Discrimination.
