The Ombudsperson discussed human rights with civil society
Prizren, March 31, 2022 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj with associates organized on Thursday a roundtable discussion with participants from civil society, representatives of public institutions, media and activists in Prizren to discuss the protection of human rights, equal and non-discriminatory treatment, as well as the challenges of respecting them.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj said that the dialogue with civil society aims to bring him closer to the citizens and to present his mandate and role.
In this discussion, many issues and challenges were revealed, starting from the social ones, education, the challenges of people with disabilities in access and the use of official languages.
Civil society organizations dealing with people with disabilities highlighted the great challenge that this community has by being discriminated against for not having access to public infrastructure and lack of transportation.
Another issue that affects people with disabilities is the problem with the disability assessment commission which is not done according to the degree of disability. Another problem for this category of citizens remains the issue of their assistance and employment.
The participants stressed the importance of this meeting and requested that such meetings take place in the future, highlighting the Ombudsperson’s Institution as a special place to address their challenges and problems.
The campaign “Equality for all” started on March 1, 2022, the first roundtable was held in Pristina while the second is held in Prizren.
