Prishtina, 16 October 2021 – Given the importance of the electoral process within a democratic system and appreciating the importance of independent, impartial and professional monitoring, the Ombudsperson Institution (OI) will closely monitor, from the perspective of human rights, Local Elections for Municipal Assemblies and Mayors on October 17, 2021, throughout the country.

Based on its mandate, the OIK will monitor the voting process and institutions where persons deprived of liberty are held, homes for the elderly and without family care, community integration homes, etc.

Also, the OIK will keep open throughout the election day the Head Office in Prishtina, to receive possible complaints regarding allegations of possible violation of rights guaranteed by applicable law in the Republic of Kosovo, during the voting process.
