Ombudsperson marked the International Day for Universal Access to Information

Pristina, September 28th 2021 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj participated on Tuesday in a roundtable to mark the International Day for Universal Access to Information, organized by the Information and Privacy Agency.
Mr. Qelaj said that the law on access to public documents guarantees every person the right to have access to documents and information, with the exception of access to information restricted by law.
He added that public institutions should be more aware of the law on access to public documents, in order to promote the public interest, and in this case it means easy and unhindered access of the public to the data and documents produced, received, held or controlled by public institutions.
The competence of the Ombudsperson, according to the Law on Access to public documents, is to assist citizens in exercising the right to access public documents according to the Constitution and the Law on the Ombudsperson.
