Ombudsperson took part in a public debate with inhabitants of Plemetin village

Pristina, June 30th 2021 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj participated in a meeting with the inhabitants of the village Plemetin organized by the mayor of Obiliq, Mr. Xhafer Gashi.
Residents from the Albanian, Serb, Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities expressed their concerns about the process of returning families to their village in Plemetin. They stressed that the uncontrolled return of families to this village has caused many problems, especially in the field of security.
The Ombudsperson underlined that the right to return and the right to choose the place of residence are the rights guaranteed by the constitution, but the concerns raised by the residents should be taken seriously by the relevant institutions in order to ensure the right conditions for return but also to have security for residents living in the village.
The Institution of the Ombudsperson is in the phase of evaluating the findings related to the received complaints and will take all actions in accordance with the legal provisions.
