Gjilan, 20 January 2021 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj was received in a working meeting on Wednesday by the mayor of Gjilan, Mr. Lutfi Haziri. The Ombudsperson, Mr. Qelaj thanked Mayor Haziri for providing space for the office of the Institution of the Ombudsperson within the municipality, a legal requirement met by the municipality. He stressed that in the future will continue with good cooperation with the municipality to work in the interest of citizens.

Mayor Haziri thanked Mr. Qelaj for the visit and congratulated him on receiving the mandate of the Ombudsperson. He stressed that the municipality has already established a tradition of cooperation with the Institution of Ombudsperson and thanked for the role of the office in this municipality which identifies the problems of citizens and for which the municipality works to find solutions.

Mr. Qelaj also visited the Center for Protection and Rehabilitation of Women and Children “Liria” in Gjilan where he met the head of the center, Mrs. Nazife Jonuzi. Mrs. Jonuzi informed Mr. Qelaj about the condition of the center and their concerns about the persistent lack of budget. She also stressed that cases of domestic violence have increased in this city during the time of the pandemic.

Mr. Qelaj visited the regional office of the institution in Gjilan to see closely the progress of work.
