Pristina, 10 December 2019 – The Ombudsperson, in cooperation with civil society in Kosovo, on the occasion of marking the 10th of December, the World Human Rights Day, organized for the third year in a row the march “Stand up for Human Rights ”.

This year this initiative aimed to send a message of increased, inclusive and inter-institutional engagement for protection of human rights, with a particular emphasis on protection of the right to a safe and healthy environment, as one of fundamental human rights, through which institutions of the Republic of Kosovo have been called upon to undertake more effective measures for protection of environment and the citizens’ right for a healthy environment.

The march was closed with a brief speech held by the Ombudsperson Mr. Hilmi Jashari and Mrs. Jeta Xharra from civil society, through which they raised their concerns on major environmental problems with which citizens of our country are facing, such as: air pollution, lack of green spaces, degradation of land and rivers, construction of hydropower plants and lack of drinking water, the failure of enforcement of the Law on Noise Protection, waste mismanagement as well as other environmental problems, by requiring from responsible institutions, undertaking of immediate measures in addressing these environmental problems.
