Presentation of the annual report of the National Preventive Mechanism against Torture

National Preventive Mechanism against Torture (NPMT), as part of the Ombudsperson Institution, organized a conference on marking the 26th of June, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. The purpose of this conference was to present the Annual Report of the Mechanism and to discuss challenges and implementation of the recommendations addressed to the responsible institutions.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Hilmi Jashari, emphasized the role and importance of the National Preventive Mechanism against Torture and other relevant mechanisms in the protection of and compliance with the freedoms and rights of persons deprived of their liberty, as well as the obligations that the state has towards applicable standards in the legal system.
Meanwhile, Minister Mustafa and other panellists expressed their will for a greater engagement as regards the implementation of the recommendations given by the NPMT, but also with regard to inter-institutional cooperation and coordination, with the sole purpose of complying with the rights of persons deprived of their liberty.
This conference was attended by Mr. Ekrem Mustafa, Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Mr. Nehat Thaçi, General Director of the Kosovo Correctional Service, representatives from the Ministry of Justice, representatives from the Ministry of Health, Kosovo Police, Prison Inspectorate, Kosovo Police Inspectorate, representatives from Mental Health Institutions, representatives from accredited Embassies in the Republic of Kosovo and representatives from civil society.
