PRISHTINË, 13 March – National Preventive Mechanism against Torture (NPMT) within the scope of the Ombudsperson Institution (OI), headed by Mrs. Naile Alaj, Deputy of the Ombudsperson, on 12 of March 2019, conducted a first regular visit to the Detention Centre in North Mitrovica.

In the course of NPMT monitoring visit in the Detention Centre in North Mitrovica, Mr. Benasim Mediq, the manager of the Detention Centre, as well as the Staff of Correctional Service and Prison Health Department, provided the monitoring team with full cooperation. The team without delay was provided with access to all premises and necessary information for accomplishment of their mandate pursuant to the law, has been ensured. Furthermore, interviews with convicted persons as well as with those on remand were enabled to members of the team.

As per findings during the visit, NPMT will compile a Report with Recommendations, which will be delivered to responsible institutions.
