Ombudsperson Institution, in support of OSCE Mission in Kosovo, organized a round table discussion regarding human rights, with the main focus on human rights of Turkish community living in Kosovo. The round table with Turkish community took place in the city of Prizren
The purpose of organizing such round table discussion was to conduct an open discussion with citizens of Turkish nationality regarding human rights and fundamental freedoms as well as to address their concerns as per respect of human rights.
Participants of this round table discussion were representatives of Turkish Consulate in Prizren, of Prizren Municipal Assembly, representatives of University of Prizren – program in Turkish language, NGO representatives, activists and citizens of Turkish community.
The Ombudsperson presented the role as well as legal and constitutional mandate of the Ombudsperson Institution as per protection, respect and promotion of human rights and freedoms in Kosovo, in the course of which participants were provided with the opportunity to get more information on the manner of reporting violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Institution of the Ombudsperson.
While in the course of on open discussion, attendees of this round table discussed on various problems which they encounter in their daily life such as: inapt translation of school books in Turkish language and simultaneously their deficiency, application of discriminatory phrases in school books and restrictions as per use of mother tongue.
On this occasion participants get acquainted with the latest materials published in Turkish language by OI with educational, awareness rising and information character on human rights and fundamental freedoms.
