Prishtinë, 25 October – Having in regard that administration and maintenance of the cemeteries is a municipal activity of general interest and based on information gathered concerning poor cemetery maintenance, the Ombudsperson, based on the Law No. 05/L-019 on the Ombudsperson, initiated ex officio investigations, regarding assessment of situation of the cemeteries in municipalities of Republic of Kosovo.

The Report aims to provide a real depiction of the situation of the cemeteries in municipalities Kosovo wide, by taking in consideration the most basic criteria that the cemeteries ought to fulfill in order to be accessible, dignified and meet citizens’ needs. The Report identifies issues which ought to be addressed by competent municipal authorities based on their legal responsibilities, aiming adjustment and improvement of situation in administration of cemeteries.

Through this Report, the Ombudsperson recommends responsible authorities on the measures that ought to be undertaken in order to improve this situation.
