
Journalistic prizes for contribution on human rights promotion have been awarded
PRISHTINË, 5 October – Within the scope of the project:,,OmbudsWatch – Promotion of the Role of Ombudsperson in Kosovo’’, a project implemented by Balkan Investigative Reporting Network Kosovo (BIRN) and the Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC), in partnership with the Ombudsperson Institution and supported by the Embassy of Netherlands in Kosovo, awarded the prize for three best journalistic stories on human rights issues.
Each of the stories which are part of this competition, dealt with a particular topic in the area of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and at the same time each of them aimed to encourage journalists’ community that through different reporting stories, inform and raise public awareness on situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the country.
The first prize has been awarded to journalists Venera Çoçaj and Matko Bulent from Kosovo 2.0 for the documentary ,, The Sky is Turning’’ which deals with rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in Kosovo.
The second prize has been awarded to journalist Ardiana Thaçi-Mehmeti from KOHA.net, for the documentary “Being old’’, which dealt with the rights of elderly people within the family and within retiring establishments.
While the third prize has been awarded to Besa Kalaja from PreportTR for the documentary “So sad to be old” which deals with the lack of institutional care for one of most marginalized and discriminated category of people in the country, the elderly people and Kaltrina Rexhepi from RTK for the documentary “A child becoming a mother” that looks into the phenomenon of early marriages.
