
On the occasion of 11 July, World Population Day, the United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA Office in Kosovo, in partnership with the Ombudsperson Institution – OI, organized a round table discussion with the theme “Family Planning is a Human Right!”
In this round table, Mrs. Ulrika Richardson – UNFPA Coordinator as well as United Nations Development Coordinator, Mr. Hilmi Jashari – Ombudsperson, Dr. Rrustem Musa, Deputy of the Minister of Health (TBD), Mexhide Mjaku-Topalli – Deputy of the Assembly of Kosovo, as well as Dr. Merita Vuthaj – Chief of Division for Mother, Child and Reproductive Health in the MoH, in their speeches pointed out the importance of World Population Day, highlighting the importance of this each year event which aims to focus the attention on the urgency and importance on the issues of population such as family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.
The purpose of this roundtable is to continue advocating for the implementation of the recommendations from the evaluation report ” Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Kosovo: A Reality beyond the Law ” with a special focus on family planning rights and provision of contraceptives, as part of the essential medicines list.
In conclusion Dr. Zarife Miftari – program analyst – Sexual and Reproductive Health and the Youth (UNFPA Office in Prishtine) represented conclusions and recommendations from this round table.
Participants of this round table were representatives of institutions, NGOs, media, international organizations, etc., who discussed about Family Planning in our country, as a human right which should be respected.
