
The Ombudsperson, accompanied by his associates, visited the Organization of Down Syndrome Kosova
On the eve of World Down Syndrome Day, Mr. Hilmi Jashari, the Ombudsperson, associated by two Deputy Ombudspersons, Mrs. Edona Hajrullahu and Mrs. Marija Radulovic, as well as other associates, visited today the organization of Down Syndrome Kosova (DSK), based in Prishtina.
In the course of this visit, DSK Director Mrs. Sebahate Beqiri, informed the Ombudsperson and his associates about the work and the mission of this organization, emphasizing the fact that primary commitment of the organization is protection and respect of rights of persons with Down syndrome. By expressing thankfulness to the Ombudsperson Institution for the support provided, Mrs. Beqiri pointed out that for those with Down syndrome, provision of professional health services, inclusion in educational system as well as their integration through employment, remain still challenging.
The Ombudsperson Mr. Jashari, prized the work accomplished and DSK contribution as well as promised OIK’s full support as per initiatives and activities, which aim improvement of the status and protection of the rights of persons with Down syndrome, as well as requested that children with disabilities are treated equally in the educational process and in the function of enforcement of legislation which guarantees inclusive education.
Also during the meeting where representatives of Kosovo Disability Forum were present as well, the Ombudsperson heard participants’ concerns related to the failure of enforcement of laws which guarantee human rights of disabled people.
During the visit, coffee has been served to them by young people with Down syndrome, who work as waiters in the coffee shop opened within the scope of DSK organization.
