Prime Minister Haradinaj hosted the Ombudsperson, Hilmi Jashari

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, hosted the Ombudsperson Hilmi Jashari with the associates, who congratulated the prime minister on the task and the installing of a new governance dynamics.

At the meeting, it was discussed about the cooperation between the Ombudsperson Institution and the Government in order to advance human rights in the country.

The Ombudsperson informed Prime Minister Haradinaj about the issues which are handled by the institution, human rights in relation to the state and institutions, such as the case of billing of electricity, namely the obligation of citizens to pay for electricity they do not spend themselves, but which is spent in the north of the country, with which obligation four basic laws have been violated.

Second, the Ombudsperson informed the Prime Minister about the proceedings in regard to the Kosovo Pension Fund carried in Serbia, which constitutes a violation of the rights and dignity of pensioners, as a case of the Strasbourg Court.

Third, the reviewing of an MLSW decision that obliges the elderly, even when they are physicaly unable to do so, to testify every six months that they are alive, which, according to Jashari, violates human dignity.

The Prime Minister was also informed about the Ombudsperson’s concerns regarding discrimination and the offensive language used in textbooks for people with disabilities, especially for people with Down syndrome.

Prime Minister Haradinaj said that he appreciates the great work of this institution, which according to EU barometer on independent institutions ranks highest in the Western Balkans region and in this context the Government will provide support to the Ombudsperon Institution but also for other institutions dealing with the protection of human rights.

Knowing that the fundamental human rights and freedoms are inseparable, inalienable and inviolable, Prime Minister Haradinaj expressed the Government’s commitment to the creation and promotion of equal opportunities for all citizens.
