The Ombudsperson participated in the International conference regarding human rights in Europe

Ombudsperson, Mr. Hilmi Jashri accompanied by the Deputy Ombudsperson Mrs. Shqipe Ibraj Mala, participated in the International Conference with the theme ”Reclaiming Human Rights in Europe: How to Enhance Democratic space”), which was held on 11 and 12 May 2017 in Zagreb, on occasion of 25 anniversary of marking of Croatian Ombudsman Institution.

More than 50 representatives of human rights institutions and organizations from entire Europe, including High Commissioner of Human Rights, Mr. Nils Muizhnieks, Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights Mr. Michael o’Flaherty, representatives from IOI, ENNHRI, Equinet, OSBE, UNDP, OHCHR, representatives of different Embassies in Croatia, representatives of Croatian Parliament, civil society representatives etc. have accepted invitation of Croatian Ombudswoman Mrs. Lora Vidovic for participation on this event.

Discussions during two days’ session of this conference were focused on themes that are currently disturbing Europe greatly, such as: fighting of terrorism, integration and respecting of diversity, combating discrimination, safeguarding of democracy in Europe, etc.

Zagreb Declaration has been signed at the closure of this Conference with the aim to recall the role and decisiveness of Ombudsperson Institutions at national level as well as IOI networks, ENNHRI and Equinet.
