Ombudsperson Institution participated in the Conference of National Preventive Mechanisms of the South-East Europe Network in Zagreb

The Conference of National Preventive Mechanisms of the South-East Europe Network was held from November 28 till November 30, 2016 in Zagreb, Croatia, with the theme “10 years of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and implementation of Mandela Rules as well as the role of NPMs in protection of refugees and migrants”.

Ombudsperson Institution of Kosovo in this Conference was represented by deputy Ombudsperson, Mrs. Shqipe Ibraj Mala, and the Conference included participation of Ombudsmen and representatives of NPM from Austria, Monte Negro, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania, Macedonia, Romania, Greece as well as representatives of SEE NPM Network, OSCE, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute and Council of Europe.

The Conference developed its work in three working groups sharing in this way their experiences in finding further opportunities for cooperation in the following fields:

• Strengthen implementation of NPM recommendation and their follow-up,
• Implementation of the UN Mandela Rules
• Role of NPMs in protection of refugees and migrants
Concrete recommendations and conclusions derived from this Conference, after their technical finalization will be delivered to the relevant institutions.
