With great concern the Ombudsperson is monitoring the flow of last developments after Astrit Dehari’s tragic death in the Detention Centre in Prizren.

Not having due respect for the sorrow of Dehari’s family through contradictory statements issued by state authorities as well as outflow and disclosure of the recordings from the Detention Centre in Prizren, at the time when Astrit Dehari’s death occurred, represents violation according to Criminal Code of Republic of Kosovo, but at the same time severe violations of the professional ethics.

The Ombudsperson expresses his concern regarding degradation of the investigation process, including detailed discussion on the circumstances related to the case, which deteriorates severely family’s dignity and privacy in these hard circumstances for them, which represents the bases of all fundamental human rights and freedoms.

On this occasion the Ombudsperson draws attention that the public authorities ought to be responsible towards liabilities and responsibilities that they have in the investigation process and not to become ordinary debaters and reviewers, with proves and evidences of a case under investigation, which is extraordinary sensitive and complex.
