The Ombudsperson of Republic of Kosovo is participating on International Conference of Ombudsmen Institutions for the Armed Forces
The Ombudsperson of Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hilmi Jashari, is participating on International Conference of Ombudsperson Institutions for the Armed Forces, that is being held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 3-5 October 2016.
The conference theme for this year is the role of Ombudsman Institutions before, during and after international mission, with the aim to strengthen cooperation and share good practices among independent institutions in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms within and by the armed forces.
Six sessions foreseen by the conference program include: the issue of international missions – relations, experiences and cooperation with Ombudsmen Institutions as well as with other stakeholders, the issue of veterans as well as overcoming challenges and lessons learned for the future.
Contribution of the Kosovo Republic Ombudsperson has consisted on the issue of immunity on cases of international military missions, considering as necessary the pressure of international mechanisms for abolition of immunity, with special emphases on civil and administrative procedures, in national states where these missions are deployed. Furthermore, Mr. Jashari has put the emphases and the need of recognition of the distinction between Ombudsmen in countries hosting international missions and states which send these missions.
An official statement will follow upon closure of this conference which will also encompass relevant recommendations including issues raised by the Ombudsperson of Republic of Kosovo.
