The Ombudsperson of Republic of Kosovo is participating in high-level International Conference in Tirana
The Ombudsperson of Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hilmi Jashari, is participating in two days, high-level International Conference with the theme “Challenges for Ombudsman Institutions with respect to mixed migratory flows“, which is being held in Tiranë.
In the course of his presentation, Mr. Jashari stressed the need of reviewing international standards related to the refugees, specifically of the Convention of 1951 related to the Status of Refugee, since the same fails to handle some of primary important concepts such as the principle of dignity protection and principle of not returning.
Furthermore, Mr. Jashari in his presentation emphasized that migration is a phenomenon which does not affects States and Continents one by one but it was and remains to be global development. Since the first migrations recorded within the holy books and untill today, only social and economic factors have changed to an extant (push and pull factors). On the other hand, Ombudsmen should develop unique standards regarding monitoring as well as protection on global level, since selective approach and ad hoc bases cannot further be acceptable approach, having in regard the global influence of migration, was stressed by the Ombudsperson, Mr. Hilmi Jashari.
The host of this Conference, which is being held in Tirana, is the Albanian Peoples’ Advocate, who also is the head of Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM), in cooperation with International Ombudsman Institution (IOI), with Association of Ombudsman Mediterranean Francophone countries (AOMF) and the Ibero-american Federation of Ombudsman (FIO), have finalized organization of this Conference, in which Ombudsmen from the regain and the world are participating, including here participation of Mrs. Kate Gilmore, United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights.
