National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) of the Ombudsperson Institution (OI), within its mandate of assessing human rights respect of people deprived of liberty and on the response to invitation done publicly to visit the detained people, has conducted a visit to Detention Center in Prishtina on 30 August 2016.

NPM has interviewed six people deprived of liberty (F.K., A.B., P.A., E.H., A.A., A.D.), as well as has inspected admission register and files of the people deprived of liberty in the Detention Centre, which has resulted with no procedural violations. According to the detainees in the Detention Centre, they have been arrested early in the morning in their residing places. None of those detained complained on exceeding of competencies by the Police or the need for medical treatment. They claimed that their physical and verbal treatment was fair. Detainees placed within the Detention Center claimed that they have signed the list of confiscated items during the search.

No complaints were exposed by those deprived of liberty as per treatment in the Detention Centre. The detainee P.A. has lodged a complaint with the Ombudsperson for further investigation of their case.

The Ombudsperson will monitor further the process as per the compatibility with fair trial standards, within a reasonable time frame.
