A workshop was held today in Prishtina with the topic “Implementation of the Law on Protection against Discrimination – Procedures and Responsible Authorities – Ombudsperson, Judiciary and other stakeholders – challenges and opportunities”, organized by Ombudsperson Institution with support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Joint discussion was conducted between the Ombudsperson, as a mechanism for handling discrimination related cases, and crucial representatives of judicial system regarding opportunities and challenges of implementation of the Law on Protection against Discrimination as well as procedures and sanctions during handling of discrimination based cases.

As of July this year, a package of laws regarding human rights and freedoms has entered into force, involving the Law on Ombudsperson, the Law on Gender Equality and the Law on Protection against Discrimination, which assigns additional competencies and strengthens the role of Ombudsperson, beyond requirements and responsibilities determined with the basic Law on Ombudsperson.
