June 20 2013 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Sami Kurteshi, hosted today on a distinctive meeting the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs. Navi Pillay, on her two days visit to Kosovo.

The discussion was focused on functioning of Ombudsperson Institution, including institutional independence, satisfactory budget, the premises as well as relationship with Kosovo authorities as well as the possibility of OI accreditation in International Organization Mechanisms of Human Rights.
In the course of the meeting special emphases was given to increased number of complaints as well as on implementation of OI recommendations. Topics that were also discussed were the Law on OI, gaps and possibilities for its revision and necessary alteration when amended; the Law on Discrimination as well as discussion was held regarding the work that is being done as per mechanisms on torture prevention, cooperation with civil society and the ways of cooperation with international human rights mechanisms.
