18th of June 2013 – the Ombudsperson has continuously followed up the course of the hunger strike that is ongoing since May 31st 2013 in open area in Prishtina. Concerned about the strikers’ health, as they have entered into the 18th day of fast, he visited the strikers in the place where the strike is being held.
He was interested on health situation of strikers and asked from them to revise the possibility for strike ending. Even though they stated that they feel well, exhaustion and tiredness was evident in the face of striker. Temperature increase makes this situation even graver.
The Ombudsperson is very upset since so far no public health institution has offered necessary health care, compulsory in these occasions, including necessary information regarding health consequences that hunger strikers will endure from such deed and the way how it has been developed.
Recommendation given by the Ombudsperson was that The Ministry of Health, actually University Clinical Center or the nearest public health center should provide necessary and compulsory care foreseen on such cases, in order to protect life and health of the strikers.
