The Ombudsperson met with the State Chief Prosecutor
15 January 2013 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Sami Kurteshi visited the State Prosecution and met with Mr. Ismet Kabashi, the Chief Prosecutor. During the meeting both sides discussed about the issue of restructuring the prosecutorial system and future cooperation between both institutions.
So far, there has been made a division within the prosecutorial system, which now has the following structure: State Prosecution, Appeal Prosecution, as well as Basic Prosecutions in Prishtina, Prizren, Pejë, Mitrovicë, Gjilan, Gjakovë and Ferizaj, as well as the Kosovo Special Prosecution. Also, the number of needed prosecutors at all levels has been set forth.
During the meeting was also emphasized that as regards laws, especially those affecting the sensitive issues, such as the corruption etc, the legal acts must be more precise (these legal acts should not contain supplementary competences) and institutional competencies should be clearly defined, so that the line of accountability will be known precisely, depending on the field of responsibility of these institutions.
Both sides expressed their readiness for cooperation between the intuitions aiming to provide better services to the citizens and in order to fulfil the mission and mandate of these institutions, which is set forth by the constitution.
