19 November 2012 – The round table “Citizen on the crossway” have begun activities of the Ombudsperson Institution marking the 12 anniversary since the establishment of this institution.
Today`s round table brought under the focus of discussions challenges in implementation of the Law on Access to Public Documents, Law on Protection of Personal Data and Law on Classification of Information and Verification of Security from the point of view of the independent institutions and civil society.
A common conclusion has been reached b y the participants of the round table that public awareness is necessary to realize the right of access to public documents, as well as awareness raising of institutions and public authorities regarding their obligations to respect this right and to implement the Law on Access to Public Documents.
The participants also requested increase of the public pressure in demanding transparency of the institutions, thus contributing to observance of a fundamental right that is guaranteed by the country`s constitution and international Human Rights instruments.
These activities are being supported by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo.
