ROUND TABLE “STOP THE DISCRIMINATION AGAINST CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOLS”

On the occasion of 1 June, the International Children`s Day, the Ombudsperson Institution of Kosovo, supported by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, organized the round table “Stop discrimination against children in the schools”.
The round table offered the opportunity for a joint discussion between the Ombudsperson and the representatives of schools, human rights mechanisms in domestic institutions, as well as the police, regarding challenges and achievements in the field of education, social and economic based discrimination, physical and psychological violence, comprehensive inclusion in the education process, health care, as well as the issue of security out of the school premises.
During the round table was presented the report on the first research phase that was carried out by the OIK (the Ombudsperson Institution) in the primary schools of Prishtina regarding children`s rights in the schools and discrimination against them. This research that started in May will continue during this year and the researchers will aim to collect findings and issue recommendations to the relevant institutions. The round table of 1 June 2012 was a contribution and public awareness raising campaign against children`s discrimination.
