The Ombudsperson visited the Centre for Protection of Women and Children
25 November 2011 – On the occasion of marking the Day of elimination of violence against women, the Ombudsperson, Mr. Sami Kurteshi, accompanied by his associates, visited the Centre for Protection of Women and Children, where he was welcomed by the Directress of this shelter Mrs. Naime Sherifi.
The Centre`s Directress informed the Ombudsperson on the difficulties and difficult financial situation of this Centre, and other seven (7) Centres, which function within the Coalition of Shelters of Kosovo aiming to interact and increase the quality of services to victims.
Mrs. Sherifi mentioned in particular the challenges that they are facing, especially as regards the process of referring the cases and its re-integration. She also mentioned deficient communication between the central and local authorities as regards protection and treatment of victims of violence. According to her, during this year, only in Prishtina found shelter 57 cases victims of family violence.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Sami Kurteshi expressed the readiness of the Institution which he leads to help in this respect through legal aid and monitoring. But, the Ombudsperson mentioned the need to look for other concrete possibilities for cooperation in order to provide an adequate treatment of these cases and to impact achievement of positive results in this respect.
