THE OMBUDSPERSON MEETS THE CHILDREN ON THE OCCASION OF MARKING THE UNIVERSAL CHILDREN`S DAY

The children all over Kosovo are invited to visit the Main Office of the Ombudsperson (OIK) on 18 November 2011 in order to be closely informed on the Ombudsperson`s mission, as well as on the work being done for the protection and promotion of children`s rights.

Given the recommendation of the General Assembly of the United Nations, since the year 1956, the 20th November of each year, in many countries around the world, is marked as the Universal Children`s Day aiming to encourage the brotherhood and understanding between the children, as well as to promote the children`s welfare.
Aiming to mark this day, on 18 November 2011, the children all over Kosovo are invited to visit the OIK Main Office and to meet the Ombudsperson and the other employees of the institution. The children will be informed on the Ombudsperson`s mission, as well as on the work being done to protect and promote children`s rights.
Also, on 18 November 2011, the pupils, in the capacity of representatives of the primary schools in Prishtina, in an organized way, will be welcomed by the Ombudsperson in the Main office of the Ombudsperson Institution in Prishtina.
Also, the OIK, on 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17 November will organize meetings with the pupils of sixths and sevenths grade of the primary schools in some of the villages of Municipalities of Prizren, Pejë, Mitrovicë and Gjilan, according to the following Schedule:
On 14 November 2011 in the villages Gjonaj and Malishevë, the Municipality of Prizren.
On 15 November 2011 in Tuneli i Parë and Shipol in the Municipality of Mitrovica.
On 16 November 2011 in Vitomiricë and Novosellë, Municipality of Pejë.
17 November 2011 in Malishevë and Dobërqan, Municipality of Gjilan.
During these meetings, the OIK representatives will inform the children regarding OIK mandate, respectively, the mandate of Children’s rights group in protecting and promoting children`s rights in Kosovo. Also, during the meetings will be discussed the situation of children`s rights in the schools and the way of addressing the concerns and problems of the pupils in the schools. Also, during these meetings, the OIK staff will deliver leaflets and posters to the pupils.
Explanation: On 20 November 1959 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Also, on 20 November 1989 the General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since 1999 the Universal Children`s Day marks the anniversary of the date on which the General Assembly adopted these documents.
