THE OMBUDSPERSON CONDEMNS THE INCIDENT IN THE NORTH OF THE COUNTRY
12 November 2011 – The Ombudsperson Mr. Sami Kurteshi condemns the incident that occurred in the northern part of the country on 9 November 2011 in which occasion one person of Serbian ethnic background has been killed and two others wounded. One of the persons who are wounded is the police officer of the Kosovo Police.
The scuffle and use of violence that occurred between the Serbian and Albanian residents living in the neighbourhood of “Kroi i Vitakut” in Mitrovica is unacceptable action, which increases the risk of escalation of violence in this neighbourhood.
The Ombudsperson requests the State competent authorities to investigate and clarify circumstances that lead to this incident, thus, the justice would be able to say its word as regards identification and punishment of perpetrators based on the law.
Such violent acts are unacceptable and condemnable in democratic societies. Such way of resolving problems, despite the nature of problem, complicate even more the situation which is already complicated in the northern part of the country. This is absolutely unacceptable.
The Ombudsperson appeals for restraint of population, calls on the authorities to provide order and calmness considering that this is necessary in order to protects life, property and freedom of movement of every person in the country’s territory.
