The Ombudsperson is concerned regarding phenomenon of killings in the country

22/10/2011

The Ombudsperson, Mr. Sami Kurteshi, once again expresses his serious concern regarding the killings in the country, which are now marking an increasing trend. The Thursday’s case that occurred in the

Municipality of Istog during which one citizen of Serbian ethnicity has been killed and two others wounded, the case of killing of an Albanian citizen that occurred in the Municipality of Gjakovë, where some days ago were found dead the engaged couple, once again confirms that the weapons in the hands of citizens, directly endanger the life of each citizen living in our country and such acts also violate public order and security.
Identifying the perpetrators and bringing them before the justice is a necessary action, not only to shred light on these cases, but also to prevent such acts and to impact the general security in the country.
Not less worrying are the cases of violence occurring between the pupils of young age, including here possession and use of fire and cold weapons by the pupils. The case of knife stabbing of a pupil by his coeval who is also a pupil, bring again before us, except concern, the urgent request to undertake measures that would prevent such acts. Engagement of the respective social and institutional mechanisms aiming to increase the level of the general awareness against use of violence is necessary, emergent act and it requires a special attention.
